The Power of the Spiritual Mind

Our Thought processes are with us every minute, everyday, even in our dreams but how much do they influence us in our lives? How can we control and condition our thoughts to change our perception from negative to positive? The mind is one of the most powerful forces we have. We think all the time, and these thoughts shape our character and how we feel about everything. We need to keep our minds pure and constantly compare it to Gods. Ask yourself, would God think that? We are not perfect, but we have to learn to resist and reject our bad thoughts. The bible says “be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,” Romans 12:2. This is referring to cleansing your mind through reading the word of God. The bible cleanses our thoughts and reminds us of how we are supposed to be. If we are reading it regularly, we will find that bad thoughts are a lot more difficult to pass through our minds.

Lets think of a scenario and think of how our thoughts can play into it. Lets say we have just been told that we have a terminal illness and we have a limited time to live. What would your thoughts be? Ok, so the majority of people would think negatively and it would really change life for the worst. You can imagine all the negativity and all the depressing thoughts that would come to mind everyday. But what if we thought differently about it? It’s natural for thoughts of fear and anxiety to start coming to mind but if we reject and cut these thoughts off, while replacing them with trusting and having faith in God, we will begin to feel alot more at peace with ourselves and situations in our lives.

If we allow our negative thoughts to take hold of us, it will cause a much deeper problem. Worry. Worry is real to everyone, we all have worried about something at some point, but the truth is, worry is  a useless emotion, it in no way helps us and doing it won’t change anything for us. The sooner we realise that worry is a hindrance, the better we will feel. We don’t need to stress about things, not if we have put them to God and asked him to truthfully take care of it. Isaiah 53:4 “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering.” So we don’t need to worry, at all, about anything! I’ve been training my own mind in this the past couple of months and I have experienced so much peace through doing it. God showed me a few months ago, I have everything under control, put your problems to me and I will take care of them. I have not been disappointed! Even to the smallest of things, they have been taken care of. Let this be an encouragement to anyone reading this.

What we think can change who we are if we are not careful. There are endless stories of people being influenced by their own negative thoughts and in the worst cases, this has led to suicide. This clearly shows how powerful our minds are and how they can drive us to do things. Lets take the negative in us and trust God to turn it into positive, internal strengths. If we change how we think, we can change who we are.
