Christians Being REALLY Controversial

Some christians have this militant, hostile way of preaching the word of God and evangelising which I believe is the total opposite of Gods love. Now some people will disagree with this and that’s also fine, but  I saw something the other day that really bothered me. It was a group of Christians basically preaching hate to people and holding signs saying “God hates Fags” and “You’re Going To Hell” and I was amazed (just to add too a matter or smoking or not smoking doesn’t mean you can’t be accepted by God and certainly doesn’t determine you salvation!). I thought to myself, if I didn’t know God was real for myself and I was looking in from the outside what would I think?

Just ask yourselves that for a second… Well I know what I would think, I would think that God hates me and that I have no chance of redeeming myself. Is that the message we are trying to spread here?! They were preaching a message of death, when God declares us to preach the GOOD NEWS! For sinners to point fingers at sinners and think they are somewhat better is so underwhelming. Did God tell these people that they are any better than others? Did he tell them to preach in such a way that gives him a bad and evil image? I don’t think so. The lack of love is what is the problem here…

God is a God of love and we have to let others know this. We can’t keep bible-bashing people and talking down to them like we are judging them. People will notice this and create an unhealthy stigma attached to Christianity and God. That’s not what Jesus is about. The fact that he died on the cross for us should be enough to declare how much he loves us all! I believe these Christians are very much one-sided and they only see God’s rage and anger, directed at others and they behave as if they are perfect which they are far from as  you can see with this kind of approach! They have created their own religion in a way that only accepts their  views and their ways and anyone that thinks any different is an enemy. What they don’t understand is that all that anger and hate they are directing at others will be directed back to them on the day of judgement for their lack of love and obedience to his word.

We can also tell from their hatred that they are not having a close relationship with God, because he would show them that they desperately need to change if he was truly open to them. If they showed a little love maybe they would get something back other than angry retaliations and hate mail.  Maybe people would actually want to speak to them and understand, more importantly what Jesus is about. I pray that God opens their eyes and shows them they are wrong so they too can be saved by the grace of God. For people to be drawn to us, they have to see a reflection of God (love) and that’s what makes a difference right? Please comment and follow the blog, would love to hear views and comments!

God bless you Guys!

Being Controversial…

Some people are very direct and straightforward but to the point of being rude. Or they say things that the average person wouldn’t say in public that might cause offence, but hey. We should speak our minds right? Now I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with speaking our minds, and that we shouldn’t be honest but saying things that might cause offence to others might be a little tricky to deal with, I mean let’s think about how others might feel if we say certain things. I believe there’s a way to say what we mean in a respectful and thoughtful way no matter what it is. We shouldn’t just go blurting out things, we should keep a tight leash on out mouths as the bible says, before we fall into sin.

An amazing paradox though, Jesus was very controversial in his life, but not because he was being rude but because of the truth he spoke, and the unbelief from others then made it controversial and hard for people to take. Jesus teached in a way that no one did, and that’s what made the people shocked. He exposed them for their sin and hypocrisy but then he spoke of his loves and grace for those that would take in his truth. Sometimes even we ourselves and christians will come across as being controversial, because of the word of God and we have to stand for the truth, but as long as we keep or conduct about his word, there is no shame in this!

I’ve come across some shocking people in my life that just say things that are really not called for and there are reasons. Sometimes it’s for attention, they believe in the motto, any attention is good attention, while other times it’s more genuine, but prehaps less thought out. Even reading some of these controversial blogs just make me think, in a way to hear people like this allows ourselves to deal with things better. The word of God teaches us not to be offend and what better practice can we have than speaking to these people and learning how to peacefully converse or disagree right? It’s so amazing was reading the other day God puts certain people in our lives tp better us. Remember this. May Gods grace and love be with you. Please comment, I’m welcome to hear views!! 🙂

Why They Don’t Believe… Thought for the Day

When we evangelise, a lot of people are pretty much turned off to the idea of believing christianity and the life and death of Jesus Christ… Which I have to admit is a little disheartening. But I’ve come to realise that the reason why this is is because people don’t like confrontation or conviction. They are scared of the truth and will do anything to tell themselves that they don’t have to own up to their sin and what they have done wrong. What they don’t understand is, it’s okay to be convicted, as this is the start of redemption for your soul. Conviction leads to repentance, which leads to mercy and acceptance from God, which leads to everlasting life! To accept we are sinners and need to change opens up the doors for God to begin that change for us. I pray that God gives us the boldness and wisdom to explain this to all that will hear, so they might be saved. Keep working for God until the end. God Bless You Guys, keep reading! 🙂

Wisdom: A gift from God for Life

We don’t realise how useful wisdom can be to us. We don’t really think about it do we? That’s until God started to reveal to me how it can be used as a tool to help us and guide us in our troubles and dilemmas in life. God has given us his wisdom for the taking.

I was reading the scriptures a few months ago and came across a verse in proverbs that really “mademethink”. It spoke of how people must crave the wisdom of God and how it can save you from death. Then I really began to think about what God was trying to say to me and I got it. If you are wise, you will find life a lot clearer to you because wisdom is a likeness of God and in turn, will bring you peace because you will won’t be scrambling your brain thinking and worrying about how  you will solve your problems. God showed me then to ask for his grace and wisdom to help me grow and become more mature in him and he has opened my mind to the deeper meaning of his word and truth.

Having wisdom is really about trusting god in all and through all and adopting his mindset about everything. This is when we will begin to show wisdom. It’s about growing into maturity in Christ and conducting yourself. This is when we really begin to find Gods wisdom and we will see the benefits we can get from having faith and believing that God will provide us with his knowledge.

Think You’d Go To Heaven? Determining Your Eternity…

There is one thing that is inevitable. Death. We all think about the after life and where we will go when we die, but how can we be sure of where we will spend eternity?

When God returns, he needs to recognise us as his faithful children who love him and put him at the top of our list. It’s important that he recognises us through us giving our lives in dedication to him and the spiritual relationship he has with us. Ask yourself if you are living your life, dedicating it to him? The truth is, we need to be at that place where God is seen as our everything and where we fully depend and trust him in our daily lives. This is how we get to know god as our literal dad or father and that’s how we have to see him for him to know us and to know him. If we ask God to reveal more of himself and spend ore time in his word and in prayer, we will begin to see the start of a personal relationship with the almighty God.

Here is a passage from Matthew 7:22 that explains “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you, depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.” Here, the bible is speaking about the dangers of being “falsely” close to god and how important it is to know God on a personal level. You might go to church every Sunday or have a prophetic gift, but that isn’t what’s going to get you to heaven. What will get you to heaven is your belief, your relationship with him and how we live our daily lives. We are not perfect, but God knows ours hearts, and how much we desire to make an effort for him and want to change. To help us, the bible says, “ask and it shall be given to you,” this Is because God knows that without him, we are lacking and “fall short of the glory of God” so he has given us the opportunity to ask for what we need from him, if we have the willingness to do so. All we need, including our salvation, is in God and we need to constantly be making an effort for him, as he centred his whole life around teaching us and dying to save us from hell. God also knew that in our asking, we would develop a child to parent-like contact, which is what we must aspire to have.

We need to understand the real sacrifice he made for us and how much he loved us to do this. We also need to stop treating God as just being there and welcome him as a father into daily life. Once we grasp this idea, we will then begin to give back to him what he gave to us, and in the process, get ourselves to heaven as we grow, change and mature in his character. So, asking all these questions if you think you are not going in the direction of heaven, now is the time to begin this special contact with God while you still have the chance…

Local Evangelising: Meeting with Daniel the Ex-Sniper

A few months ago, me and my mother were witnessing in our local area and came across a man who was openly against God, blaming him for what he had been through in his life. He was an ex armed sniper, someone who was trained to kill and take shot at threatening targets in Afghanistan, but was removed. Amazingly, by the wisdom of god, my mom managed to convert his whole way of thinking in just an hour of speaking about the love of Christ! I was totally amazed, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to be witnessing something so life changing as someone realising their salvation and Gods incredible love for them, from having such a negative approach at first.

When we had finished talking, he was willing to allow God back into his life, (as his parents were Christians and were working as preachers overseas) and just became really optimistic and understanding about Gods intentions and love for him. A few weeks after this, we had heard that things had gone wrong for him, he had been having family problems and even worse, he was now homeless. We called and had a chat with him to see how he was and what exactly was happening…

We were really concerned for Daniel and started praying to God that he would support and look after him. He continued to stay in contact with us and let us know how he was doing, which was great and that just reassured us that he was still trying to seek God. After a month, we got a text from him saying that he had got a flat just around the corner from us and that he was okay and getting control of his life. We had arranged to meet him and he very kindly invited us to his house for a “cuppa” yesterday which was amazing. When we got in, he greeted us and shows us around his flat, offering us drinks which was also very nice. So we asked how he got the house so soon, we knew we were praying for him, but I honestly didn’t expect to see things sorted this quickly! We told him we were looking out and praying for him and he told us he knew that God had been working in the situation, which we were so pleased to hear! He told us he had also been praying that things would be okay and they were getting better. I was so interested to hear about his story in the army and what he was going through. The first time we met, he had been riddled with guilt because of the people he had taken the lives of, and that’s why he was angry at God because he thought he didn’t deserve forgiveness. He thought God was angry with him and would never forgive him for what he had done. He had also suffered with Post Traumatic Stress disorder, having nightmares about what happened and was almost relieved to hear that God wasn’t angry at him, but loved him and forgave him for his sin because he was at the stage of repentance. I could see he was shocked and surprised to hear of Gods beautiful mercy.

While we were at his house, he explained that he now knew what he needed to do and that he would do whatever it took to build on his relationship with God, which was great to hear. We were welcome to come around anytime and we agreed to give him a bible and carry on helping him through if he needed. The nightmares have stopped for about two months now, we all knew that God had done yet another amazing thing. It was so good to see God at work in someone’s life and that we had been a part of that. It was a really successful outcome! It’s a real encouragement to see this and I hope everyone gains the confidence to step out for Christ, including myself!

The Power of the Spiritual Mind

Our Thought processes are with us every minute, everyday, even in our dreams but how much do they influence us in our lives? How can we control and condition our thoughts to change our perception from negative to positive? The mind is one of the most powerful forces we have. We think all the time, and these thoughts shape our character and how we feel about everything. We need to keep our minds pure and constantly compare it to Gods. Ask yourself, would God think that? We are not perfect, but we have to learn to resist and reject our bad thoughts. The bible says “be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,” Romans 12:2. This is referring to cleansing your mind through reading the word of God. The bible cleanses our thoughts and reminds us of how we are supposed to be. If we are reading it regularly, we will find that bad thoughts are a lot more difficult to pass through our minds.

Lets think of a scenario and think of how our thoughts can play into it. Lets say we have just been told that we have a terminal illness and we have a limited time to live. What would your thoughts be? Ok, so the majority of people would think negatively and it would really change life for the worst. You can imagine all the negativity and all the depressing thoughts that would come to mind everyday. But what if we thought differently about it? It’s natural for thoughts of fear and anxiety to start coming to mind but if we reject and cut these thoughts off, while replacing them with trusting and having faith in God, we will begin to feel alot more at peace with ourselves and situations in our lives.

If we allow our negative thoughts to take hold of us, it will cause a much deeper problem. Worry. Worry is real to everyone, we all have worried about something at some point, but the truth is, worry is  a useless emotion, it in no way helps us and doing it won’t change anything for us. The sooner we realise that worry is a hindrance, the better we will feel. We don’t need to stress about things, not if we have put them to God and asked him to truthfully take care of it. Isaiah 53:4 “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering.” So we don’t need to worry, at all, about anything! I’ve been training my own mind in this the past couple of months and I have experienced so much peace through doing it. God showed me a few months ago, I have everything under control, put your problems to me and I will take care of them. I have not been disappointed! Even to the smallest of things, they have been taken care of. Let this be an encouragement to anyone reading this.

What we think can change who we are if we are not careful. There are endless stories of people being influenced by their own negative thoughts and in the worst cases, this has led to suicide. This clearly shows how powerful our minds are and how they can drive us to do things. Lets take the negative in us and trust God to turn it into positive, internal strengths. If we change how we think, we can change who we are.

Modern Life: The Truth about our Generation

Modern life is changing. The way that we live and think is effecting us more than we know or could ever anticipate. What does this mean for us in the future and the society we will be forced to live in?

The morals and standards of people living today are dropping fast, homes have become divided, people no longer want to “get involved” to stand up for what is right anymore and general morals and standards are also becoming a thing of the past. Let’s take a look at some modern life statistics…

In the 1970’s just 8% of households were headed by a lone parent, but by 2011 that figure had reached 22 per cent. This was mirrored by a fall in the number of two-parent families – either those married or cohabiting – from 92 per cent at the beginning of the 1970s to 78 per cent in 2011. There are now almost twice as many people living alone than 40 years ago (The 2011 General Lifestyle Survey Overview from the Office for National Statistics.) Now I’m not saying that people who come from single parent homes are bad or that they are less valuable than others, not at all because I know what that feels like but the point Is that God intended a mother and father to raise a child to bring stability and happiness. Males without a father figure can suffer the effects of misguidance and  anger, due the fact they haven’t seen that positive male model in their lives. On the other hand, females without a decent mother figure can be more vulnerable to feelings of low self-esteem and loss of decency, not having seen that positive image of how to be a lady from a mother. The effects can be detrimental in young and later life, yet we are seeing more of this type of lifestyle.

Approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape. Studies show that the more reality television a young girl watches, the more likely she is to find appearance important.More than 1/3 of the people who admit to “normal dieting,” will merge into pathological dieting. Roughly 1/4 of those will suffer from a partial or full-on eating disorder. 58% of college-aged girls feel pressured to be a certain weight. (Source, doomething.org) This is a perfect example of modern life. People are now judging others purely based on looks. The effects of vanity are having a really bad effect on young people today, and body image is now seen to be the most important thing, overriding personality, interests and other internal factors. Well, God said this would happen, “for in the last days, men shall be lovers of themselves…” 2 Timothy 3:2. The bible speaks of how people will get more vain and selfish leading up to his return.

I watched a show the other night about live crimes and how they were dealt with. The show did an experiment, they set up a woman getting robbed by a man, both were actors. They began with shouting and the man was shouting abuse at the woman. This was done in a busy town centre, so plenty of people were walking around at this time. By the time they were shouting, people just looked, but carried on. This is maybe understandable, my thoughts were I’d probably think they were a couple and wouldn’t want to get involved either, but things began to get a little heated in the next scenario… The man then began to grab quite aggressively at her bag openly. People this time took more notice, but instead of intervening, the scene began to gather a small crowd! I couldn’t believe it, I was literally shouting at the TV! This went on for a good 5 minutes, then the actor grabbed the bag off the other actor and started to run away. At this point a man came from nowhere and dived on the “thief”. He was later told it was an experiment, and was happy that he got involved. This shocked me, that and many other examples show how people are loosing natural affection and sympathy. “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.” Matthew 24:12 This is another perfect example of the scriptures revealing modern life and how people’s thought’s and feelings are changing around us.

Those are just some of the ways modern life is effecting us and what we are living around. It’s good to know what we are facing day to day. We need to stay close to God and let him lead us through the tough times ahead. Thanks for reading this post, be sure to follow the blog. Bye for now guys xoxo

Refugee and Asylum Seekers: My training with Restore

Yesterday evening, I went to a refugee training support programme with a Christian Charity called Restore in Birmingham City Centre. It was the second meeting at this point, but I couldn’t make the first one, so this was my first time there. I arrived quite early and  when I walked in I thought, oh no, I’m the only young person here, this is going to be really awkward, but I didn’t let that stop me and I decided to stay. As the meeting began to start, we ended up with a group of about 10-15 people, and a few younger people arrived too, so I didn’t feel so isolated. I began to speak with the group and found out why different people decided to come. I met the team leaders, a woman from south Africa and a Chilean missionary living in the UK, both have worked for Restore over 20 years.

The first hour of the session was about legal terms and advice we would need to know. Just going through the list of things that have to be done to be a legal citizen in this country is so excessive! We were told that first, a claim has to be made by the person in question to the Home Office in Croydon, then their claim has to be decided. It’s done by weighing their reasons for coming and the risks of death, torture, or well-being may have on the individual. It’s not easy. We were shown some case studies and examples of scenarios and they all just blew my mind. One of the ones we were shown was of a young wife, her two children had been killed in the war in Syria and she didn’t know where her husband was. She stayed with her young child and moved to the UK. Because she looks after her young child, she has no time to learn English and is struggling with communication and a stable place to live. This is just one of many stories, its understandable why these people need all the support and legal advice they can get!

Near the end of the legal low down, a woman called Paulette from Cameroon was then asked to share her story. It was so inspiring and emotional, I was nearly in tears as she broke down while she remembered what had happened. She was a political activist in Cameroon and had been captured and tortured there for her strong beliefs and rebellion against the strict system. In  a bid to save her life, she posed as a partner with another person and flew to the UK. She made her first case and tried to appeal for initial “Leave To Remain”- this means you are legal in the UK. After some time, her case was denied and she was left with the chance to appeal again with a solicitor. She was then made destitute and things just seemed to get worse after the solicitors dropped her case the next year. After a long 7 years, she was finally given the chance to stay in the UK and rebuild her life. I couldn’t believe it. but that wasn’t the end, she hadn’t seen her mother in 7 years, and they had arranged to meet in Nigeria later that year. Sadly, her mother got sick and died shortly after. She was in tears in front of us and I could feel myself welling up, my heart really went out to her. She said she had support from her church and she prayed to God that she would be okay and after all that time, things are finally looking up for her. She now was arranged permanent accommodations, she’s getting her education on the rise and she’s beginning to grieve her mother.

What a story. shortly after this, the meeting had finished and people stayed behind to chat. I just had to talk to Paulette and encourage her and I did, I told her she was an inspiration and that God was with her and kept her going! She was grateful and thanked me, she was just so humble and gracious. That was my evening, and I loved it, it really made me think and be thankful that God has given us such privileges here in the UK. It also made me aware of the baggage people carry when they come into this country and how it affects their present lives,  you wouldn’t believe. The next meeting is coming up soon and I literally cannot wait, ill keep you guys updated!

The Journey Of The Apostles Begins: Acts Chapter 3

The chapter begins with Peter and John going up to the temple at the ninth hour. The number nine in biblical terms mean to achieve something, so here’s where it links in. The next verse says “and a certain lame man from his mother’s womb was carried,” so this man was carried into the temple where Peter and John were, at the ninth hour, very important. As the lame came in to ask for charity, Peter said, “silver and gold I have none; but such as I have give I thee: in the name of Jesus Christ get up and walk.” The man was healed in the ninth hour, but more importantly, his soul was saved and salvation had been achieved in the ninth hour (Jesus died on the ninth hour, the hour of completion, “it is finished”) Can you see the significance here?

Peter then in verse 12 addressed the crowd and asked them why they were so shocked, “Ye men of Israel, why ye marvel at this,” he told them that these miracles and signs they were seeing were all part of the beginning of Gods glory on earth in the following verses. Peter was so humble, he showed Jesus to be the one who deserved all the credit in verse 13, “for this it is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – the God of all our ancestors who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this.” Peter was focused and totally understood where the power from these miracles were coming from and he didn’t let the praise of the locals change him. As  he continued to preach to the crowd, he confronts the issue of the death of Christ and the views of the people. He explains that he now understands that the people of Israel put Jesus to death through ignorance.

The people didn’t understand who they were putting to death and that was the problem, their lack of knowledge and faith that Jesus was who he said he was, even though the prophecy was written in their holy books, they still didn’t believe. Peter knew this and he felt no revenge or need to avenge Jesus’ death because he knew the people were spiritually immature, they didn’t understand. What they needed, was teaching, they needed to understand Gods laws and Jesus’ life, although they were a part of it. Peter seized this opportunity to teach and speak to the people in the temple here and thoroughly explain Gods plans, “now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away…” Now was the time for teaching to be done, so that the gospel of Christ could be spread throughout the world.
